Redefines Global Enterprise Security Management with USM Enterprise
Unified Security Manager (USM) Enterprise Provides Global Security Management for Consistent Security Enforcement Across Multiple Enterprise Locations
FREMONT, Calif.,—May 03, 2004—iPolicy Networks, inventor of the Intrusion Prevention Firewall for real-time network protection, today launched its Unified Security Manager™ Enterprise or USM Enterprise, a highly scalable, global security management system to address enterprises’ need to enforce consistent security across enterprise locations worldwide. USM Enterprise’s unique features include virtual security domains, which provides customers the flexibility to segment their internal network into multiple security domains, each domain having its own set of security policies and hierarchical management that allows role-based management. The key benefit to customers is a management system that provides global security enforcement and monitoring view of the enterprise, and also offers the flexibility to enforce and manage security on an individual site basis.
“Battling hackers, worms and viruses to ensure the integrity and continuity of our networks is a daunting task. We are forced to rapidly adjust to these changing security threats within our enterprise. We selected iPolicy’s ipEnforcer Intrusion Prevention Firewall for its adaptive, third-generation security architecture that enables the rapid adaptation of defenses against new and emerging security threats,” said Lam Hoang, director of information systems at Synplicity. “The USM Enterprise allows enforcement of consistent security policies and enables us to centrally configure, manage, monitor and report on enterprise-wide security.”
“USM Enterprise is a sophisticated yet simple to use global security management system that enables enterprises to configure, manage and monitor their global networks, regardless of size, complexity or geographical location of the networks,” said Manish Gupta, director of marketing at iPolicy Networks. “It is designed to provide our customers with the global security management system they need.”
“Bringing global security control back to the executives in this way effectively closes the gap left open by fragmented multi-location, multi-product security policy enforcement,” added Gupta. “One of the key benefits is compliance with government security regulations.”
Virtual Security Domains and Hierarchical Management Enable Role-based Policy Enforcement
Unlike current offerings that are designed for device-level management, iPolicy’s USM Enterprise is a highly scalable, feature-rich global security management system that enables true end-to-end security management. This provides enterprises the flexibility to apply a consistent set of policies across different business units or locations – for example, one set of policies for users in the finance department and another for sales and marketing, and yet another for partners and visitors, according to varying security privileges. Hierarchical management allows global and local administrators to coexist and manage security within the scope of the existing enterprise-wide business policies, thus enabling the IT organization to maintain a consistent security posture across the enterprise. This is unlike device-level management which is cumbersome and creates a high risk environment.
“USM Enterprise allows for automated, transparent updates of the latest anti-virus and worm signatures, URL database additions, and vulnerability database updates for the entire network without having to drill down to each individual device to make necessary changes,” said Pankaj Parekh, CTO and vice president of engineering at iPolicy Networks. “This key distinguishing factor of the USM Enterprise offers customers real-time security enforcement once the updates are available, and reduces maintenance and management costs to manage the security for the entire network.”
Three Tiered Architecture Provides Scalability and Redundancy
USM Enterprise has a three-tier management architecture that can scale to manage up to one thousand ipEnforcer® Intrusion Prevention Firewalls that integrate multiple firewall defense mechanisms (e.g. firewall, intrusion detection/prevention, URL filtering, VPN, anti-virus, etc.) across multiple enterprise locations simultaneously. USM Enterprise distributes its functionality across multiple USM components that can be installed in a distributed fashion throughout the enterprise network in order to provide redundancy, eliminating any single point of vulnerability. For distributed deployments, communication between the USM components is SSL encrypted, further reinforcing security.
USM Express Allows Rapid Security Deployment for Small Enterprises
USM Express is a security management appliance that packages all the USM Enterprise components into one appliance, allowing smaller enterprises to speed up security deployment.
Availability
USM Enterprise and USM Express are now available on Microsoft Windows NT and Sun Solaris operating systems. For more information about iPolicy Networks products.

About iPolicy Networks
iPolicy Networks is the developer of the world’s first Intrusion Prevention Firewall, the ipEnforcer product line. It is a firewall that protects data networks from a wide range of security threats, with no compromise to network performance while offering a significant reduction in TCO. The ipEnforcer product line has multiple firewall defense mechanisms intrinsically built into the product that successfully block worms, viruses, MMC (mobile malicious code), encrypted threats, undesirable content through URL filtering policies, and mitigates DoS and DDoS attacks in addition to providing access control, the function traditionally performed by a firewall. The ipEnforcer is powered by a Single Pass Inspection Engine™ that performs layer 3-7 inspection of packets at very high speeds (100Mbps to 5Gbps) for detection of activity that requires enforcement action by the Intrusion Prevention Firewall. The ipEnforcer is complemented by iPolicy’s Unified Security Manager (USM), which allows customers to configure, manage, monitor, and report security across the entire global enterprise network. USM’s holistic management, Virtual Security Domains, hierarchical management, and policy based security enforcement allow enterprise to enforce consistent security across their enterprise and helps with compliance to regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, HIPAA, and European Data Privacy Directive.
