iPolicy Networks’ CEO Wins 2003 IEEE Industrial Pioneer Award
Prabhu Goel’s recent award reflects visionary career and lifetime contributions
FREMONT, Calif.—June 7, 2004 - iPolicy Networks, inventor of the Intrusion Prevention Firewall for real-time network protection, today announced that its chairman and chief executive officer, Prabhu Goel, Ph.D., was selected the winner of the 2003 IEEE Industrial Pioneer Award. The IEEE CAS (Circuits and Systems) Society honors outstanding scientists and engineers who successfully translate research into commercial products or applications. Goel, whose doctorate is in electrical engineering, pioneered design modeling and design verification through Verilog and related tools that dramatically boost the productivity of engineers.
The Industrial Pioneer Award honors outstanding contributions to the development of academic and industrial research results into industrial applications and/or commercial products. Goel received this award for his work on design modeling and design verification through Verilog and Verilog-based design.
“The Verilog language has now become an IEEE standard as well as a de facto design language for much of the electronics work worldwide,” said Prof. Giovanni De Micheli, former CAS Society president. “Dr. Goel’s hard work and vision for providing an integrated language based on design tools that dramatically boosts productivity of engineers is exactly the type of pioneering efforts we’re looking for in presenting this award.”
Goel’s enduring contributions to microelectronic design technology include language-based modeling and verification methodologies for large-scale digital system design. As founder, chairman and chief executive officer at Gateway Design Automation, he led the development and marketing of the Verilog hardware description language and associated design verification tools including integrated behavioral and timing simulation, timing verification and test verification.
“I am honored to accept this award, which is also a reflection of the many people who worked with me on developing Verilog and Verilog-based design tools,” said Goel, Chairman and CEO of iPolicy Networks. “We’re now extending these innovations on a broader scale to the enterprise security market, which is in transition as corporations unify previously disparate network security services under a single management system, without raising costs or losing speed and agility.”
About the IEEE CAS Society
The CAS Society is a division of the IEEE that is dedicated to the theory, analysis, design (computer aided design), and practical implementation of circuits, and the application of circuit theoretic techniques to systems and to signal processing. The coverage of this field includes the spectrum of activities from, and including, basic scientific theory to industrial applications. The purposes of the Society are scientific, literary and educational in character, directed toward the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical, electronics and allied branches of engineering or the related arts and science, in order to increase the professional standing of the Members and Affiliates. About iPolicy Networks
iPolicy Networks is the developer of the world’s first Intrusion Prevention Firewall, the ipEnforcer product line. It is a firewall that protects data networks from a wide range of security threats, with no compromise to network performance while offering a significant reduction in TCO. The ipEnforcer product line has multiple firewall defense mechanisms intrinsically built into the product that successfully block worms, viruses, MMC (mobile malicious code), encrypted threats, undesirable content through URL filtering policies, and mitigates DoS and DDoS attacks in addition to providing access control, the function traditionally performed by a firewall. The ipEnforcer is powered by a Single Pass Inspection Engine™ that performs layer 3-7 inspection of packets at very high speeds (100Mbps to 5Gbps) for detection of activity that requires enforcement action by the Intrusion Prevention Firewall. The ipEnforcer is complemented by iPolicy’s Unified Security Manager (USM), which allows customers to configure, manage, monitor, and report security across the entire global enterprise network. USM’s holistic management, Virtual Security Domains, hierarchical management, and policy based security enforcement allow enterprises to enforce consistent security across their enterprise and help with compliance to regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, HIPAA, and European Data Privacy Directive.
iPolicy Networks is located in Fremont, Calif., and is privately held. For more information, please visit our Web site at www.ipolicynetworks.com or call +1.510.687.3287.
