iPolicy Networks Names VP of Engineering

Shirish Sathe Deepens R&D Expertise on Seasoned Executive Team

FREMONT, Calif. — September 7, 2004 — iPolicy Networks, inventor of the Intrusion Prevention Firewall for real-time network protection, today announced the expansion of its executive management team with the appointment of Shirish Sathe as vice president of engineering. Sathe, a 22-year networking industry veteran, will oversee all of iPolicy Network’s engineering development and quality assurance programs in Fremont, Calif., and in India. He will be working closely with Chief Technical Officer Pankaj Parekh, who until now also served as vice president of engineering. Going forward, Pankaj will focus on his CTO role, refining and extending iPolicy Network’s market leading technology.

“Sathe has excellent experience building multidisciplinary research and development organizations including those in multiple locations and across international borders,” said Prabhu Goel, chairman and CEO of iPolicy Networks. “His expertise will help us advance our new breed of security architecture that helps enterprises and managed security service provider customers stop malicious attacks without impacting network performance or increasing the number of management headaches.”

Sathe’s appointment comes as iPolicy Networks is expanding its technology and engineering divisions in response to the security market’s demands for more comprehensive security architectures. iPolicy Network’s Intrusion Prevention Firewalls block worms, viruses, encrypted threats, and undesirable content, and mitigates Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The firm’s single pass inspection and rule enforcement engines enable Layer 3-7 packet inspection at wire speeds providing comprehensive, real-time network protection against blended threats.

Prior to joining iPolicy Networks, Sathe was vice president of engineering for Venturi Wireless where he rebuilt the engineering and operations teams and more than doubled the size of the R&D organization. As vice president of engineering at Inkra Networks, he developed network security and business continuity networking products for enterprise and service provider data centers. He has also been a director of engineering in Cisco System’s Multi-service Access Business unit and has held multiple senior management positions at Stratacom, Granger Associates and Halcyon. He holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the India Institute of Technology, India, and has been awarded five patents in the areas of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and network system design.

“iPolicy Network’s Intrusion Prevention Firewalls will change the way enterprises and security service providers think about and use firewall technology,” said Sathe. “I am eager to apply my engineering development and networking expertise to help iPolicy Networks achieve its vision of becoming the leading designer and developer of intrusion prevention security appliances.”
