IPOLICY NETWORKS GRANTED INTRUSION PREVENTION AND DETECTION PATENTS
Methodologies Focus on Integrated and Dynamic Security Techniques
FREMONT, Calif., September 12,
2006 – iPolicy Networks, provider of next-generation network security solutions, today
announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company two technology patents
for intrusion prevention and detection methodologies for iPolicy. These methodologies focus on
integrated intrusion detection and dynamic intrusion prevention techniques that contribute to
effective management of the wide spectrum of current and emerging threats in enterprises, government
agencies and carrier networks.
The first patent is for integrated intrusion and threat detection technology. iPolicy’s
technology uses advanced intrusion detection techniques that evaluate in real-time multiple
threat conditions using pipeline processing. These techniques offer detection of complex threats
and higher accuracy and protection of networks than previous methods. This patent also includes
global policy-based intrusion detection management that can assess threat across multiple networks
and locations for consistent security enforcement.
The second patent addresses iPolicy’s breakthrough intrusion prevention technology.
It allows threat-based response method for precise management of a wide spectrum of threats.
Unlike traditional IPS solutions, iPolicy products can take advanced preventative actions for
different types of threats – e.g. Bandwidth Limiting action to prevent packet-flooding
by limiting the traffic from zombies or worm infected hosts, and Session Rate Limiting to mitigate
DoS and DDoS attacks on Web servers, FTP servers and other TCP application servers.
"High-speed performance and accuracy are the requirements for intrusion prevention but
the combination is hard to achieve," said Eric Maiwald, senior analyst, Burton Group. "Simultaneously
analyzing packets using multiple detection techniques and then using all of this information
to make response decisions helps to improve both performance and accuracy."
The iPolicy Networks’ next-generation network security solution offers world-class protection
while greatly reducing acquisition, installation, management and ongoing maintenance costs compared
to competing solutions. iPolicy’s release 2.5 was recently proven, by leading independent
test house Miercom, as the most scalable threat prevention solution in the industry, for mid-to-large
distributed networks of up to 600 integrated security appliances, and large-scale virtualization
of up to 1800 Security Domains (virtualized security devices).
“As the risk and sophistication of network attacks have increased, iPolicy has focused
on developing dynamic methods to prevent emerging threats,” said Pankaj Parekh, CTO of
iPolicy Networks. “These patents are building blocks for next-generation network security,
enabling correlated threat detection and mitigation, and helping our customers stay one step
ahead of new threats and attacks.”
